I have a list of folks whom I know all written in a book,
And every year at Christmas time I go and take a look.
And that is when I realize that these names are of a part,
Not of the book in which they’re written, but of my very heart.

Each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime,
And in that meeting they’ve become the rhythm of the rhyme.
And while it sounds fantastic of me to make this claim,
I really feel that I’m composed of each remembered name.

And while you may not be aware of any special link,
Just meeting you has shaped my life more than you can think.
For once you’ve met somebody, those years they can’t erase,
The memories of a pleasant word or of a friendly face.

So never think that my Christmas greeting is just a mere routine,
Of names upon a Christmas list forgotten in between.
For when I send a Christmas greeting that is addressed to you,
It’s because you’re on that list of folks whom I am indebted to.

For I’m but a total of the many ones I’ve met,
And you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget.
And whether I’ve known you for many years or few,
In some way you had a part in shaping things I do.

So every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew,
The biggest gift that life can give is meeting someone like you.
And may the spirit of Christmas that forever and ever endures,
Leave its richest blessings in the heart of you and yours.

It is exactly one year since you last commented here! And it is definitely the time of the year for SoundEagle🦅 to gift and greet you with lovely and fluffy snowflakes, as seen at the very start of this comment.

In particular, you are cordially invited back for another delightful visit to this post, which has been imparted with many eye-catching improvements, including an animation of falling pearl-like snowflakes commemorating the passing years from 2012 to the present!

May this vastly improved post once again find you in good spirit whilst also wishing you all the best during the festive season and new year!

In addition, SoundEagle🦅 would like to wish you not just a happy Boxing Day and a joyful Saint Stephen’s Day but also a joyous Kwanzaa from 26 December 2018 to 1 January 2019!

May 2019 be better than 2018 for us, and may the new year be more memorable than the old for the right reasons!

      Yours sincerely,
      Rose GreetingܓSoundEagle🦅

    • Thank you, Cathleen. It is somewhat surprising that the excellent poem remains somewhat obscure. Perhaps its length could be hindering it from being used more widely. Even its origin cannot be determined precisely. Have you even encountered it elsewhere?

Let’s hope that 2018 will exceed our expectations amicably, if not wildly. 🙂

    • Hello Janice

Belated New Year greetings and best wishes to you also. I have just visited your blog, which seems to be a mine of useful information. At present I do not blog myself, but rather make occasional contributions to Soundeagle’s site. Three more of our collaborative efforts are due to be posted in the fairly near future.

      Warmest regards

    • Thank you for visiting SoundEagle🦅. Since you are “a British-Australian scientist and expert in plants and trees, particularly the monitoring, management and utilisation of genetic, biological and ecosystem resources”, and have “discovered lost forests, championed to eliminate illegally logged timber in global supply chains”, SoundEagle🦅 is gifting you a pleasing landscape as the background image of this comment. One wonders if you can identify some of the trees and shrubs in the vegetation shown here.

Thank you for your paying SoundEagle🦅 a visit in the new year, and for feeling wonderful about being “part of something bigger”.

In your savouring and remembering the “truly wonderful” feeling that this celebratory post has generated in you, may 2019 and beyond also become truly special and potent to bring you even more research clarity and grant you the fantastical wherewithal to be a master in criminology so as to protect your city from lurking evil by applying astute observation, behavioural profiling, forensic science and logical reasoning, with or without the Batman manoeuvres!

May Lashaan and Trang find the ultimate comics, manga, novels, TV shows, movies and other books to review, revere and revel in!

Perhaps one day you will indeed start reviewing nonfictional writings, whether in books or blogs. Should this become a reality, SoundEagle🦅 would very much like to invite you to take up the intellectual challenge of reviewing and critiquing a very well-formatted, almost book-length post entitled The Quotation Fallacy “💬”.

  33. That’s a fine poem you have there! It seems to have a sort of meter to it. As you probably know, the most common meter in English is the iambic. So far I like the heroic mode of verse best, which consists of 10 syllables in iambic pentameter, with rhymes for every couplet. The following is a famous example:

True wit is nature to advantage dressed,
What oft was thought, though ne’er so well expressed. -Pope

Some of the greatest English poets have used it, including Shakespeare and Pope, because it is the most suitable & elegant for the language.

    • 🎄🎊 Happy New Year ⛄🎅 to Dr Bob Rich

Thank you very much for emailing me on 28 December 2019 the following:

This is a Non-Christmas Card for You
May EVERY DAY of your year be:
      full of MEANING and PURPOSE
      CONTENTMENT and JOY
      BEAUTY and HARMONY.
Every day is special. Cherish it, treat it as if it might be the last day of this life for you.
So, why am I sending this card NOW?
Because lots of people intend kindness by sending me Christmas cards, and it’d be rude not to reply.
Because it is as good a time as any.
With best wishes, now and always,
      Bob Rich

It is delightful that you have been thinking of SoundEagle🦅, your newly adopted son, who hereby wishes you the very best in your endeavours during 2020 as you make your new resolutions, and who detests summer heat and enjoys the 4Cs: Cool Climate Creature Comfort, the raison d’être for featuring the festive season’s greetings with plenty of animated snowflakes and the European theme, as you have astutely and amusedly observed as well as reported.

Once again, Happy New Year to you and also Happy Perihelion on this Sunday 5th January 2020 at around 7:48 GMT when the Earth reaches at the point on its orbit at which it is at its closest to the Sun, where the distance from the Sun’s centre to Earth’s centre will be 147,091,144 km, as opposed to Aphelion (the furthest distance from the Sun) at 12:34 GMT on Saturday 4th July 2020 when the centre of the Earth will be 152,095,295 km from the centre of the Sun.
