A belief is not merely an idea the mind possesses.
It is an idea that possesses the mind.

  1. “A belief is not merely an idea the mind possesses. It is an idea that possesses the mind.”

It is indeed. I have a personal saying, “Believe all things, believe in nothing.” It is the closed mind that needs a belief, or belief systems.

  2. A bit overwhelmed here, but thank you. On this quote, “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you will see.” that is a truism if there ever was one. I delve into multiple lives and yes, past lives give a much better “aim” at future lives also, as in, the farther (and further) you stand, the more of the vista you will see.

    • Hello, Sha’Tara! SoundEagle would like to inform you that our thread of comments initiated by you is becoming even more engaging, as Lily Von Valley has recently joined the conversation.

Thank you for presenting the quote “the farther (and further) you stand, the more of the vista you will see.” as a parallel to “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you will see.” Your existential reflections on these quotations at the metaphysical level are indeed appreciated. It is quite clear that we both value the potency of quotations and their resonating power, as if they are the choice gems and prime crystals perched atop, or embedded in, the mineral substrate or rocky groundmass of texts. Considering the sizeable scope of the various matters regarding quotation, SoundEagle is pleased about finally being able to encapsulate the whole post with a decent definition of the Quotation Fallacy as follows:

Any error or defect that weakens the construction, interpretation or treatment of a quotation as a consequence of invalid or faulty reasoning; intentional manipulation or misrepresentation; unintentional carelessness or ignorance; misleading notion or view; and mistaken belief or attribution.

May we always be short on Quotation Fallacy and long on Quotation Fantasy!

  3. Ah yes, and in this sense transhumanism is possessing not only our minds, but Beings – I like the way you illustrate transhumanism through its interdisciplinary sciences, in your heading.

  4. Ps, I forgot to mention, on lily of the valley, I am intrigued at how something so pretty and dainty could be so deadly. I’ll visit the blogs you noted, soon.
