“A belief is not merely an idea the mind possesses. It is an idea that possesses the mind.”
It is indeed. I have a personal saying, “Believe all things, believe in nothing.” It is the closed mind that needs a belief, or belief systems.
Welcome, Sha’Tara! Considering that you have commented on this particular quote here, one may safely assume that it is indeed your most favourite of all the quotes carefully chosen by SoundEagle, who is not only pleased to know that you have responded positively and benefited from reading about The Quotation Fallacy “💬”, but is also delighted to read your personal saying as well as your earlier comment as quoted below:
Thank you SoundEagle. Thanks for the follow. I did a wander on your site: it’s beautiful. So, I signed up too! I like quotes and you certainly have very “sound” advice on source, and the danger of using them out of context.
Given that your earlier comment refers to this post, you are very welcome to leave a copy of the same comment (with additional remarks as you wish) at the comment section of this post as a memorable token of your visit. 🙂
By the way, The Quotation Fallacy “💬” is the second post of a special trilogy. With great pleasure, SoundEagle would like to recommend reading the first post, which is a lengthy and multifaceted showcase of 👁 Optical Illusions 👁🗨❇️😵✳️👀 in their various forms and manifestations. Please enjoy to your heart’s content!
The culminating post in this trilogy will definitely be the very next post to be published in the last month of 2017. Stay tuned. . . . .
May you have a very happy December as the festive season approaches!
Hello, Sha’Tara! SoundEagle would also like to mention that this graphic called “Transhuman, Posthuman, Neurotechnology, Neuroengineering, Neural Networks, Neuroscience, Memory Transplant, Augmentation and Reprogramming” is also used in the post entitled “🎧 Facing the Noise & Music: Playgrounds for Biophobic Citizens 🏗🌁🗼🏭”.
A bit overwhelmed here, but thank you. On this quote, “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you will see.” that is a truism if there ever was one. I delve into multiple lives and yes, past lives give a much better “aim” at future lives also, as in, the farther (and further) you stand, the more of the vista you will see.
Hello, Sha’Tara! SoundEagle would like to inform you that our thread of comments initiated by you is becoming even more engaging, as Lily Von Valley has recently joined the conversation.
Thank you for presenting the quote “the farther (and further) you stand, the more of the vista you will see.” as a parallel to “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you will see.” Your existential reflections on these quotations at the metaphysical level are indeed appreciated. It is quite clear that we both value the potency of quotations and their resonating power, as if they are the choice gems and prime crystals perched atop, or embedded in, the mineral substrate or rocky groundmass of texts. Considering the sizeable scope of the various matters regarding quotation, SoundEagle is pleased about finally being able to encapsulate the whole post with a decent definition of the Quotation Fallacy as follows:
Any error or defect that weakens the construction, interpretation or treatment of a quotation as a consequence of invalid or faulty reasoning; intentional manipulation or misrepresentation; unintentional carelessness or ignorance; misleading notion or view; and mistaken belief or attribution.
May we always be short on Quotation Fallacy and long on Quotation Fantasy!
Ah yes, and in this sense transhumanism is possessing not only our minds, but Beings – I like the way you illustrate transhumanism through its interdisciplinary sciences, in your heading.
Welcome, Lily Von Valley! Thank you for finding your way here, and for your observation or realization that “transhumanism is possessing not only our minds, but Beings”. SoundEagle wonders about your reason(s) for capitalizing the word “Beings”. Could the reason(s) be similar or related to why the words “Mother Nature” are often capitalized?
After reading your most recent post entitled “Dark Matter, Dark and Anti Energy” as well as the comments there, especially the conversation between you and Sha’Tara, SoundEagle has decided to follow your blog and also to change the background colour of SoundEagle’s comments here from linen to black, consistent with the title and subject matter of your latest post. In a sense, or figuratively and symbolically, Sha’Tara, Lily Von Valley and SoundEagle are now all immersed in the realm of dark matter and energy, whose nature has yet to be uncovered by science.
Given the contents of your latest post, please kindly allow SoundEagle to recommend the following posts for your perusal and enjoyment:
Considering that you may have been quite fascinated and enamoured by the dainty flowering plant of your name sake, lily-of-the-valley, please be informed that SoundEagle’s special post entitled “The Scents and Smells of Orchids ❀👃✾” lists about 20 orchids smelling like lily-of-the-valley, plus hundreds of other orchid species with different scents.
Both, quote and heading have the same nuances, and are, coincidently, implying total domination, not just of our minds, personality, thoughts/feelings, but our whole natural systems, through beliefs or our physical Beings. I loosely refer to, what ever, the human natural essence means when, I say Being/s,– after all we are moving into transhumanism, and the current Beings are destined to be superseded by artificial ones and therefore new Beings, synthetically selected (?!…)
Thnx for reading Dark Matter and your comments, and by the way, those above are v.funny and brought me a smile Alas dear SoundEagle, I think I might just await science to uncover my dark valleys where Sha’Tara and SoundEagle will cross my path that we may materialised a formidable trio. Since writing that post, I have come to think that Physics is a con and this whole dark matter and ‘uncharted’ terrains have been visited many times before… The problem is we are forgetting it all, or simply haven’t been round long enough to see the revisits or repetitions….!
Thank you for the recommendations and for your comments.
Ps, I forgot to mention, on lily of the valley, I am intrigued at how something so pretty and dainty could be so deadly. I’ll visit the blogs you noted, soon.
