I could see that you have been prolific as usual on your blog, and it seems that the background colour of your blog has been altered. Perhaps you have changed the theme of the blog.

First of all, “One’s past” includes the positives, neutrals and negatives, not necessarily just “mistakes we might have made”, to use your own words.
Secondly, it is not quite true or valid that “If we are judging people by their past, we are in effect, living in the past.” If it were true, then it could also be claimed that “If we are judging people by their present or future, we are in effect, living in the present or future.” After all, judging is not equivalent to living, for the act, purpose, nature, scope, process and outcome of judging can be quite separate or different from those of living.
Thirdly, it is important to realise that the quality, validity and reliability of someone’s judging are the focus of the issue, not (just) whether we could or should judge people by their past, present and/or future.
Fourthly, whether or not there are indeed issues in Oscar Wilde’s statement, it is not always feasible to judge people by the present or future, because the present is often too close to see clearly, and the future too distant to see or predict, not to mention that events in the future have not yet happened, and therefore are unavailable for judgement or appraisal.
