Chinese New Year 中國農曆新年
SoundEagle🦅 wishing you a prosperous Chinese New Year of the 🐎Horse 馬 and a Happy New Year 2014 with Annual Surplus 年年有餘
Hello! SoundEagle🦅 is back in action here after a fairly long hiatus. The Year 2013 is farewelled by SoundEagle🦅 with a special post entitled Cosmos in Perspective: Scaling the Universe with Interactive Infographics, Film, Animation and Slideshow. In contrast, the Year 2014 is welcomed with a festive, eclectic post laden with multimedia and multitudinousness, including games, video and music as well as numerous season greetings and best wishes conveyed to you in Chinese.
May you have hours of fun and enjoyment!
Chinese New Year of 2014 begins on the 31st of January and ends on the 14th of February, the Valentine’s Day. This double celebration represents a culmination of the Eastern Culture (emphasizing Relationship and Kinship 關係和親情) meeting and amalgamating with the Western Culture (emphasizing Romance and Love 浪漫和愛情). It provides a good indicator and macrocosmic example of the increased intensification and extensive interpenetration of economic, social and cultural practices and relations as globalization continues to expand in the 21st century. Specifically, this can be both seen and heard in the dynamic results of musical hybridizations and cross-cultural collaborations, as the following musical performances demonstrate:
◊ 新年快樂 ◊ 萬事如意 ◊ 得心應手 ◊
◊ 財源廣進 ◊ 恭喜發財 ◊ 合家幸福 ◊
金馬奔騰,龍馬精神
馬到成功,馬年更壯
朝朝暮暮時時獲財運
風風雨雨季季笑顏開

The Electric Canvas has had the honour of creating beautiful projections for Sydney’s Chinese New Year Twilight Parade. Growing bigger and brighter every year, the parade weaves its way through the streets of Sydney’s Chinatown in front of tens of thousands of spectators celebrating the Lunar New Year.

Chinese New Year is an important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the first day of the year of the Chinese calendar. In China, it is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Chinese New Year celebrations traditionally run from Chinese New Year’s Eve, the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar. Since the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the “Lunar New Year”. The Lunar New Year Day is always between 20 January to 20 February of the Gregorian calendar each year.

It was a joy to read this well researched piece . The Chinese culture has been wide spread the world over , starting with the gold rushes , Chinese influence has been present .
I’ve lost count of the different china towns I’ve been to .It’s very caring & sharing the way the biggest lunar celebration is always public & for everybody .One year I came out the airport door at Sydney to experience a lion dance – truly amazing feeling . I enjoy the enveloping sharing that the Chinese display – no other culture does it better !
